Association for the Preservation of
Tennessee Antiquities (APTA)
http://www.mtsu.edu/~histpres/APTA/
In October 1951, Mrs. Allan Van Ness founded the APTA, which she patterned after the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities.  The first official
meeting of the APTA was held on
November 8, 1951, at the Noel Hotel in Nashville with approximately 100 charter members present.  The Ramsey House
Plantation in Knoxville was the first site
acquired by the APTA in May, 1952.  In July of 1952, the Knoxville Chapter took over the active management of the property.  Today, the APTA has 15 historic sites and 11 chapters, which preserve, maintain, and interpret the properties.
